The field of Fertility Counseling is a rapidly growing specialty area in psychotherapy. Many clinicians are finding more patients presenting with reproductive issues and a complex history of reproductive loss. Whether infertility is a presenting problem or occurs during the course of therapy, clinicians need to understand challenges faced by clients as they navigate the world of assisted reproduction. Further, the fallout and aftermath for families who have struggled with infertility continues long after family building is resolved and can impact relationships for generations.
I am committed to the training of clinicians who are interested in expanding their skills in the area of reproductive mental health counseling. The Fertility Counseling Postgraduate Course (FCPC) is a foundational step in learning the key aspects of fertility counseling. I have taught this since 2010 and, along with trusted colleagues Linda Applegarth, EdD and Nancy Hafkin, PhD, trained over 300 mental health professionals across the globe in this work. Until this course, few clinicians have had access to an intensive, live, learning experience in this field. I am excited to announce that next year’s course will be taught by two recognized leaders in the field, Kristy Koser PhD and Laura Covington, PhD. They will continue the quality, integrity and legacy of this program, based upon the new 2nd Edition of Fertility Counseling, of which both are contributors.
The FCPC course will continue in the same model — a formal, live, closed cohort, monthly, three-hour interactive class. It is 10-month long teleconference-based program that provides 30 CEs, running from September to June. Please see attached flyer. If you are interested in attending or receiving more information, please fill out the application by clicking here. If you have any questions, please contact Drs. Koser and Covington at FertilityCounselingCourse@gmail.com.
I am, also, excited to direct you to a 7.5 CEU program though PESI and The Psychotherapy Networker on Infertility, Pregnancy Loss, and Reproductive Trauma Training Course, taught by Drs Koser, Covington, Applegarth and myself. This course is a crucial first step to becoming more confident in this growing area of expertise and provide an initial step towards the in-depth clinical training offered in the Fertility Counseling Postgraduate Course.
